I did manage to see the debate last night: in true 21st century fashion not an hour after the live broadcast, it was available online. I wished I’d had your camera melissa and the requisite energy to get up from my chair and take a photo of my family congregated around the laptop on the kitchen table. Blivs was nodding off but Eldest is fired up and excited that Obama might get in. I hope his political optimism is not crushed by this election, but as we know, anything imaginable is possible.
I thought the debate would be more thrilling, clearly Obama is the candidate who appears more genuine, but Mc Cain has an obvious and sinister appeal to the reactionary white. I really wonder how conscious Americans are about the oil wars, and what the U.S is involved with in the Middle East. The rhetoric is so bizarrely crusade-like, the reality so savagely imperialistic.
Anyway post-debate I watched the slick first episode of the 4th series of The Office free on veoh, the only catch being the five U.S. Army army ads peppered throughout.
Not just strong, Army Strong. The war in the East that formed the backdrop to Orwell’s 1984 has arrived and it will probs never go away.
