a case of not getting it

i was pretty interested in watching don’t shoot the messenger’s interview with jezebel writers moe tcazik and tracie egan after hearing about how tragically awful it was – how the women got incredibly wasted and how they were flippant and ignorant about issues of rape and sexuality. the two women were interviewed by lizz winstead, who i’m guessing is in her late 40’s or early 50’s. she is outraged by the women, and even cross-posted a rant on the huffington post about it, with choice clips.

so late last night i watched the clip :

and i thought the girls were hilarious…in an early richard pryor sort of way (see live and smoking live improv from 1971). i do not know the 2 writers personally, but my perception is that they were totally fucking with lizz, and being drunk just pushed them over the edge. god, i have really, truly been there. when you start going because you are thrilled with the absurdities that you’re spewing, and being drunk makes it spew in overdrive. which can be entertaining if the people are smart, and tcazik and egan clearly are.

winstead was shrill and humorless. but what bugged me the most was that she repeatedly told egan that SHE (EGAN) WAS LUCKY SHE HADN’T BEEN RAPED. what the fuck does THAT mean? lucky to not have been raped. think about it. what a condescending and fearful thing to say.

the problem between winstead and the jezebel writers is this: a generational humor block. old school feminists don’t get the new kids. they don’t get how we can call each other cunt and bitch and not mean anything by it. they think the natural vagina is sacred and beautiful, and that if you make any wisecrack to the contrary, you are self-hating. they feel they have sown the seeds for every advantage younger women have, and to not act the way they deem acceptable is to be ungrateful.
